On Aug. 28, 2026, the Freshmen class participated in a new state contest involving testing milk and dairy products. In this contest, they got to examine, smell and taste different kinds of dairy products. This mainly included milk and cheese.
The freshmen who participated were Braxton Gerken, Alayna Clark, Lacy McDaniel, EmyJay Houck, Kenley Smith, Luke Sedlacek, Tripp Probasco and Hunter Meier. FFA advisor, Dana Hall said that even though the group didn’t receive the ranking they had hoped, she was proud of the freshman for trying out a new contest even though they weren’t the biggest fans of dairy.
“Proud of them for trying something new and not complaining too much even though some of them aren’t a fan of milk, cheese or are lactose intolerant,” said Hall.
The high school FFA members will also be participating in several more contests this year. These will include land and livestock judging, Leadership Development Events (LDEs), and Career Development Events (CDEs). The chapter will also participate in events including Husker Harvest Days, State Fair, Nationals, and many more.
One of the chapter’s biggest events of the year is coming up on Sept. 19 during Mustang Roundup: the 2nd Annual Color Run for Critters, in remembrance of late McCool Junction alumni Clay Real. Community members can sign up for the event by contacting Hall at dana.hall@mcjmustangs.org.
